What is a storyboard?
A storyboard is an essential part of creative production that serves to outline a sequence of events. According to storyboard artist Anthony Zierhut, various companies in production, film, TV, and animation use storyboard artists to “turn the director’s interpretation of the script into drawings that others can understand…” This practice streamlines the production process by measuring composition, angles, and timeframes while ensuring that nothing is left out.1
Unlike a refined pitchboard, commonly seen in advertising, a traditional storyboard is executed quickly to allow experimentation with different elements. This approach is more suitable when dealing with multiple shots that have to tell the same story. Similar applications of this approach include website wireframes and animation flip books.
