A typical day in the internship starts with me getting there at 8:45 a.m. or at the latest 9 a.m. Once I get in I clock in sit down in my work area open up Rack.ai and start working. Usually, these episodes that we are doing captions for and translations are about 42-45 long no longer than that. I want to talk about the challenging part of this process and that you have to pay attention to the video’s audio because the majority of the time people are talking all at once and then having to separate the voices in your mind so you can follow what one person is saying so then you can write it down and translate it to Spanish. But, sometimes that can be an issue cause you can’t tell what the people are saying, they are talking too quietly, etc. You need to keep your ears open when listening to these videos because, at the end of the day, we are doing these captions so that other people whose main language isn’t English can enjoy the shows that ESR 24/7 is producing. Most of the time I’m just editing on the computer sometimes I’ll talk to my coworkers there to you know take a small break and talk about the work we have done so far on that day. Sometimes we would have people come into the work area and then they would head to the green screen room as those people who are coming are guests/contestants for the shows. When I see them walking by my work area I feel fascinated cause I’ve never seen a show being made in front of me so being able to see the process, the equipment, and people talking about the scripts it’s just wonderful to experience that. After a few hours of editing I go on my lunch break enjoy my break and relax then it’s back to editing and after that 2 hours later I’m done for the day I clock out and head home. Usually some days it takes no longer to edit the captions for these videos like 2 days per video, but if I’m lucky enough I can get 2 episodes done in one day.

I wouldn’t say the duties I’m doing at my internship are related to my major. Since my major is to be an illustrator I would say that my internship is more related to my hobbies since I create YouTube videos for my channel and edit my videos and doing this internship is helping me advance my editing skills. When it comes to the business side of my internship I can tell everyone is doing their best to make sure the episodes we are creating will be entertaining for our audience and to bring in more viewers to our channel. There are always discussions between the producer and the editors to make sure the episodes they film come out well and that the editing will be top-notch for the episodes. All in all, I’m learning so much in this internship and I can’t wait to work on my projects and enhance my editing skills.
