Restaurant: Gran/Electrica
About:
Gran Electrica is an authentic Mexican restaurant, which is located in the heart of DUMBO right under the Brooklyn Bridge. It is, as reviewed by Ligaya Mishan from the new York times “elevated yet rustic, chic yet homey.” , Bringing a warm sense of comfort to its customers. Gran Electrica, is owned by Tamer Hamawi, Elise Rosenberg, and Emelie Kihlstrom, together they brought up Gran Electrica and created a menu inspired by their trips to Mexico. They show-case a variety of dishes from all over the country. Gran Electrica tries to maintain everything as authentic as possible, for example, their hand pressed tortillas and house made crema and queso fresco, which is Spanish for sour cream and fresh cheese. Gran Electrica is successful thanks to its amazing chefs, Sam Richman and Jean- Georges. Together, they create dishes with flavors that are “hard hitting and precise” (Mishan, N.Y. Times). The food as stated in the N.Y. Times by mishan may be “earnest and un-showy” but one thing that does draw a crowd is Gran Electricas margaritas. They come in many different styles and they never disappoint. This place has lots of spunk with its interior décor of frolicking skeletons on the walls but it also has a nice little garden out back for those hot summer days. Overall gran Electrica offers a variety of dishes at reasonable prices. Dishes may vary from 8-25 dollars. Drinks vary as they have a vast amount of dinks such as wine, mezcal, margaritas and eventequila. So come on down today and experience some of Mexico’s traditional plates and even some of its hard hitting, tequilas.
