Leadership, community health, research, and case management are some of the main takeaways of the BSN program. I learned about different styles of leadership and identify the styles that fit me best. I learned to be decisive when needed, respectful, and effective ways of communicating. These qualities will help to function better at my job.  I was also able to become more aware of the issues and disparities that impact the communities in New York City. Learning about the strengths and weakness of the community is an important aspect of public health and is vital in effecting change.  I’ve learned new research techniques that were very helpful in gathering information and seeking resources that can be beneficial in solving problems.  Case management has taught me to look at the patient holistically and examine all aspects of their lives that can be impediments to treatment. This includes finances, housing, social support, and the availability of resources. I’ve also gained a stronger understanding of how the interdisciplinary team functions and the importance of collaboration in the best interest of the patient. The BSN program has helped me to better understand the profession of nursing, how much, it has developed, and the various ways nurses contribute in the growing health care landscape. My desire is to build on the foundation I have, continuing my education into advance practice so that I can have a greater impact on the profession.
