Zine Proposal

Zine Tech was created as a project for Research and Documentation for Information Age course. The idea came as a result of an article I read for one of the class’s homework assignments. I proposed the idea to the group members and we agreed to create this page. We believe that this will be a great way for students throughout the college to share information. Students can share school projects, artworks, ideas and any other information that will be of interest to them and/or other students. This will be a great place to discuss issues that students face throughout the campus and let the college know what it is doing well and what need improvement in the campus to meet students expectations.

We want Zine Tech to be a fun place where students can discuss freely their concerns without the fear of judgment. Sharing what you think is of value to you, will be of value to someone else as many of us share similar interests. If you believe that an essay, a picture, a word, a phrase or an artwork, has a meaning to you, we want to hear, see, live, and experience it; it might make an impact in our lives as it did in yours feel free and post it under the Zine Academic sub-page. Students will also be able to blog upload fun pictures and videos.

Zine Tech will be different from traditional zines and e-zines in that, that besides writing it will include videos and pictures. Under the Academic section students can post their school work and share it with schoolmates. Zine tech is constructed for City Tech students and it’s intended to create communities within the school. Students will also be able to discuss difficulties that they face in different classes and the difficulty of a class. Topics can range from blogging about professors to where is the best place to eat.

We created our Zine Tech to see City Techs work on the web, to share what students created, to encourage students to be creative, to find and connect with people who have similar interests. Students can also make new friends. You will be able to create the publication you always wished existed. Zine is to share information, educate, change people’s minds, to teach yourself and others something new, to get something off your chest.

A Very Short History of Zines:

Zines were self published usually handwritten or typed and photocopied. Zines included anything and they came in different shapes and formats. They contain raw information, can be grammatically incorrect, can contain information about any subject. More about Zine Tech

Zine Blogs- this section will be a great place for students to interact with one another. Students from CityTech will be able to create a circle of friends and either meet in person to further develop the friendship, or remain cyber friends and share information online. Under this page students can also add their favorite members to their page.

Zine Academicwill include Academic works such as research papers, writings, art work, Science, and any other educational material that would help students with their studies. We will create sub-pages for the subjects mentioned above so the students will be able to upload their works under the sub-page that is related to the topic. For example, if a student wants to submit anything regarding math classes, he/she would click the Zine Academic page and to the right there would be a sub-page titled Science. The student then will be able to name his/her project (i.e. Calcus 101). Another sub-page we will create under Zine Academic is Zine Prof. Here students will be able to blog about their professors and the likes and dislikes about them.

Zine Videos- is a fun and visually informative place where students can post any types of videos that they want. Students can post videos of their own or videos they may find online. Zine Videos, will include subsections: Personal Videos; Educational; and Entertainment. Students would be able to comment and rate the videos such as the educational ones for the helpfulness as related to the subject, or movie trailer review. These options would make it easier for students to find videos from different categories instead of getting confused by posting all types of videos in only one section.

Zine Photos- under this page students can share any types of pictures. This section will also contain a subsection Professional Work where students can post their school related projects such as the students that to pursue photography as their career. Students will be able to comment on pictures and give feedback.

We believe that by creating this project, we will bring CityTech students together. This web page will allow students to share information and help each other with their school work. By sharing all this information, we believe that this project will help us inspire each other with our creative works. Zine Tech will be the place where students can find educational information they need during exam weeks, or fun information such as movie reviews, or creative works that will make us think differently.
