Ethics in Design 1A

Throughout my internship, I believe I have done my best as a designer while following the ethical guidelines from the AIGA. Designing with ethics means being aware of how our choices, such as the images or messages we use, affect others. Designers need to ensure their work not only meets the project’s goals but also respects important values like inclusivity, diversity, and environmental responsibility. By keeping these principles in mind, I’ve made thoughtful choices to create designs that are both visually appealing and ethically responsible.

In the article “Copyright, Fair Use, and How It Works for Online Images,” one key point that stood out to me was the delicate balance between the rights of creators and the public’s interest. The article emphasizes that copyright laws are meant to promote the creation of new works and highlights the importance of understanding fair use, especially when using online images. As designers, we must respect others’ rights while also contributing to the community.

For each new project, I take care in selecting the images and designs to effectively convey ideas that align with the organization’s mission. I always seek feedback and suggestions to improve my work and ensure it meets their expectations. In AIGA ” How To Get The Most Out of the process,” This chapter, Created by AIGA, this guide offers helpful tips for achieving great results in design. It covers everything from selecting a design firm to setting goals, managing costs, and finishing projects successfully. This article helped me understand that if something is worth doing, it should be done well, and good design should be valued.

When we start new tasks, I know I can’t just find any image online and use it for my projects. From the beginning of my internship as a designer, I have made it a practice to use only properly sourced images. From AIGA, I learned the difference between free use and fair use of images. Fair use guidelines are established by the original owners, and using images without permission can cause problems for both parties.
