Always & Forever

What is the definition of a best friend ? It’s a commitment to the idea that you choose a person you met in your life out of everyone, that is the most genuine and trustworthy person you know. Having a best friend is someone you can tell your innermost thoughts without being criticized and will always be there for you when needed. True friendship can be rare to find, but when found it can be exceptionally special. And not only is he or she just a friend but also family.

Margery Wang’s “You” is speaking to her best friend in a sentimental tone describing their unique friendship together. She believes finding true friendship is a difficult task to accomplish. I think the reason for this is because people are constantly working to approach their own interests in some way, and you can never know the true person inside someone  which was a challenge for her to find someone she can trust . In stanza two, line 3 the poet says, “Genuine friendship is something that I cherish,” meaning she’s thankful she finally found a friend she can be open and express her feelings too. She feels fortunate she met someone special that she can call him or her, her best friend.

When finding a best friend it can be exceptionally special and also exciting. In stanza seven, lines 1 and 2, she states, “You are always there for me” and “When my spirits need a little lift,” understanding that not only having a best friend benefits the other person but also yourself. Everyone needs support from someone else other then themselves. The poet is grateful she has someone so extraordinary in her life, that she doesn’t know how to thank him or her. Her best friend never fails to impress her, he or she is always there when needed. The poet has enormous amount of love for her that can never be replaced.

Not only is her best friend just a friend but he or she is also family. In stanza eight, lines 1 and 2, the poet says, “You are everything to me and more” and “I could never express that enough,” describing that her best friend means the world to her and she doesn’t know how to show it so he or she can understand. Without her best friend life would be even more difficult to manage. They’ve been through so much together in such little time that in each passing day she knows everything will be okay because her best friend is by her side.

Most people take for granted how precious it is to have a best friend and really cherishing it. But in Margery Wang’s poem , “You”, she describes her unique friendship she has with her best friend and appreciating it. She reminisces about the first day she met her best friend, how they didn’t have anything to say but now they’re having fun. True friendship can be rare to find, but when found it can be exceptionally special. And not only is he or she just a friend but also family.
