Philosophy

Nursing is my career of choice because I think the best thing to do is to make a difference in someone else’s life. This is exactly how I feel when I am providing care to others that are in need. Nursing is a wonderful profession. I personally consider that there is no form of compensation for what the profession stands. My mission is to devote myself to serve those in need with no exception in accordance with the profession. To provide professional nursing care to individuals, families and the community.  To promote health and wellness in partnership with other multidisciplinary team members in the management of health care to improve quality of life.

My philosophy is to see patients as my family, or myself, and treat them, as I want to be treated. My responsibility as a nurse is to provide to my patients the best holistic and individualized care that is humanly possible, bring them the comfort that they need, treat my patients with respect and dignity and accept them for the person that they are, knowing that everyone is unique and important. I value and I acknowledge that every human being has the right to receive ethnically safe medical treatment, and to remain pain free. As a professional Registered Nurse I will always respect and honor the ethical standards of the nursing profession. I will commit myself to lifetime learning, evidence-based, seek advice and assistance from my peers and my superiors when needed. I will also apply what I have learned through my daily practices, and fulfill my duty, which is to care for my patients and their families with the highest ethical values and standards.

Truly I believe this is a lifetime opportunity for having someone call me” My Nurse” or “my caregiver “. In my whole life, I have always liked assisting and helping sick people. Doing this has always brought a sense of fulfillment to me. I always feel happy about myself whenever I make other people feel happy. Nursing makes me a better person, nursing is my passion. There are times when challenges are part of the package, but with confidence and knowing that God is in control, especially since I know that God has called me to be a “Good Samaritan”, in whatever situations I will overcome. Something about me that no one knows is that I like challenges. Challenges make me always want to go further. Now I am broadening my knowledge to become of better service to the people who require my service. I also, would like to obtain my Master’s degree as a clinical nurse specialist. I believe this could be a stepping stone in my clinical nursing development. This could also be a better way in which I would make other nurses to be of better service to their patients who are under their care. Therefore, for me to accomplish all my dreams, the first important step will be to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing. For that, here I am as a current student at New York City College of Technology hoping to graduate soon.
