Assignment 8: Drawing Depth

Assignment 8:  Drawing Depth

Use the 9 techniques for creating depth you learned in class to draw either an interior or exterior landscape from observation.

  • Drawing must emphasize DEPTH. Use as many of the techniques we explored in class as possible to create depth you each drawing.  Pay Careful attention to the light and shadow in your settings to create a sense of realism and volume.

The location and subject matter this week is entirely up to you, feel free to have fun setting up a scene and lighting it. Make it unique!

HINT: Plan and tape off your composition before beginning.  Make careful use of your measuring and observation skills to draw the composition, then through careful observation of light and shadow, use the 5 Value System to render the forms. Plan the light source with care and use a full range of value.

  • USE Your RULER, PENCIL, CHARCOAL PENCILS, and your 18 x 24 DRAWING PAPER for this Assignment.
  • Lightly TONE your drawing paper before beginning each drawing to a middle value.
  • Draw this composition at your highest level of skill!

Tip: SPRAY the drawing with Workable Fixatiff Spray when complete so it doesn’t smudge!
