GA7:  Understanding Periods, Commas, and Writing About Texts

Please read about commas and periods in your English Handbook.  Please post and reply to two questions about each issue in reply to Prof. Rodgers’ GA7 post.   You will find additional information about commas, periods, writing about texts, and this group assignment by accessing her post.

RWA7: Preparing for the Midterm Exam

Our midterm exam will consist of a timed argumentative essay in response to a reading.  There are two purposes for the midterm exam:  1/ to give you practice writing a thesis-based argumentative essay and 2/to prepare you for the final exam.  To start preparing for this exam, which you will complete during Week 8 of our course (Tuesday, Oct. 29), I’d like you to first to review the assignment from Week 6, your course notes and handouts and consider taking the OPTIONAL Practice Midterm Exam, you can access it here.  This is NOT required.  However, if you would like to take a  practice exam and have the time to do so, please do.

What IS REQUIRED is that you actively read over the following resources on approaches to and guidelines for argumentative essay writing:

Paradigm Overview of the Thesis/Support Essay

They Say I Say  (Read Introduction)

The Norton Field Guide Introduction to Argumentation

Finally, read and take notes on the reading for the midterm exam, which was handed out in class.  You may want to consider creating a “reverse outline” of the reading in preparation for the exam.
