Previous: Description of Teaching Methodologies

As a technical services librarian, I do not have traditional teaching duties. Like all of my colleagues, I am responsible for providing information literacy sessions for students taking classes in my assigned subjects. I am fortunate that those subjects – Business of Fashion and Technology & African American Studies – are at the intersection of my research interests making my contributions richer, more immediate and personal.

In addition to these info sessions, I organized a workshop series for my fellow CUNY library colleagues – faculty and staff- whose purpose was to familiarize and refresh attendees in the use of the popular library tool/software, Springshare, which powers our library research guides, online forms, and functions as the backend of some library webpages.

Lastly, building on the collaborative relationships formed outside the library, I was offered an opportunity to guest lecture for credit courses in AFR, lead summer sessions for College Now participants and, in a first for a City Tech librarian, teach a semester-long, credit-bearing interdisciplinary course.
