Conversely, South Africa is the largest U.S. trade partner in Africa. (Cook, 2020, p. 1) The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has increased throughout South Africa and has the largest cases in Africa. The predecessor of Cyril Ramaphosa, Jacob Zuma, caused many issues for the countries government as they tried to prosper economically and politically. When the virus’s first case was declared in March of 2020, the government proclaimed a national turmoil state. With precautions to counteract COVID-19 like school closures, banning public and large group gatherings, and residential lockdowns. The country has had a lax approach to the virus as cases started to slow down as of September 2020, allowing international travel and arrivals from countries with low infection rates. (Cook, 2020 p. 19) The economy of South Africa is the most variegated and modern of sub-Saharan Africa’s leading G.D.P.s per capita. Despite the lack of growth in the past years, South Africa is the dominant manufacturer of platinum, gold, diamonds, and coal. (Cook, 2020 p. 20)
