Thebe Magugu is a twenty-six-year-old new designer on the scene of the fashion industry. Born in the small town of Kimberley, Northern Cape South Africa, Thebe Magugu grew up dreaming of building a creative world around him. In 2015, Magugu graduated from the London International School of Fashion (LISOF) in Johannesburg, South Africa. (George, 2019) He is heavily inspired by his academic journey to reflect in his designs and his pride for South Africa. According to Vogue (2019), “a lot of people don’t know that we have the most progressive constitution in the world, because it was designed to rewrite the wrongs of the past” (George, 2019, p. 4) Magugu’s pride in the progression of South Africa’s social, political and economic status has spilled into his work. Although his country’s hardships mask the accomplishments it has made, Magugu is attempting to change the perspective on the emerging nation. (George, 2019) Magugu is a colorful example of South Africa’s new cultural landscape that birthed the Born Free Generation. (George, 2019)Â
