The Flatbush Reformed Protestant Dutch Church
A historic church that includes a cemetery, parsonage, and church house on what was once agricultural land. It was mentioned in H.P Lovecraft’s book, “The Horror at Red Hook”, and appeared on Hulu’s TV series, “The Path”. According to my research the congregation, early Dutch settlers of Flatbush, was founded in 1654. The stained-glass windows are by Tiffany’s and the building is built in Federal style and includes Romanesque features and Tuscan colonettes. The church bell was imported from Holland by John Vanderbilt. The bodies of American soldiers from the Revolutionary War, are said to be buried under the church. The cemetery includes the resting place for most of the founding families of Flatbush.
