Life is very unforeseen. I say that because neither me nor my family ever thought in their wildest dreams that we can come to the land of opportunity. Since half my family is from Philippines and half is from Bangladesh it has been very hard growing up because both my parents cultures were different. However, here we are, here I am studying my dream career. My experience in the academic fields has never been easy. As a foreign student I did not have any idea about how the schooling worked. Therefore, it has always been a very rocky road. However, I overcame all the difficulties that I had to face through my middle and high school. Even though, I did learn some English back at home, but they were never that much of a help since I was constantly getting laughed at the during any presentation. But I pulled myself and took ESL classes for 2 years at my high school and passed my NYSESLAT with the highest from our class. I was always very indecisive about what I would like to major in and what I want my academic or career goal to be. When I was in my junior year our school took us to a exploring program at NY Hilton Hotel to show how the Hospitality Management worked. I got very overwhelmed and interested by how they managed their hotel and at that moment I decided I would give Hospitality a try. So, I talked to my college adviser and she said it is very good field for me since I am very social and organized. She also told me that Cornell is the best choice for me if I want to major Hospitality. However, I couldn’t afford Cornell so I started looking for college with the same major and ended up getting accepted at NYCCT. My personal strength what I believe is me being communicative and social. Also since I work part time at a supermarket called Fine Fare and I am learning so much about customer service. I think it would help me at my career in a very good way since I am interested at managing a hotel one day.
