Welcome to my Eportfolio!

Welcome to my Eportfolio! Let me intorduce myself and tell you who I am, where I am coming from and what are my future goals and my nursing phylosophy

I was born in the Republic of Belarus. While in high school, I had decided to follow the career of ecologist. I was inspired by my father, who was then working as an engineer at a waste water treatment station. In 2001 I successfully passed entrance exams of the International Sakharov Environmental University and began my studies in the field of environmental management. During my senior year of college, while studying the effects of a contaminated environment on the human body, I discovered my interest in health sciences and medicine. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that my true passion was medicine. I have decided to pursue my education in Health Sciences in the United States of America, choosing the career of a nurse.

In 2009 I graduated with honors from Borough of Manhattan Community College and successfully passed New York State Board of Education registered nurse licensure exam. To make a valuable contribution to the community and to acquire clinical experience I have volunteered at the Endoscopy Unit of New York Downtown Hospital for six months in the field of patient care. Shortly after that I have become a nursing student of baccalaureate program of New York City College of Technology. My long term goal is pursuing education in Graduate School in the field of Public Health Nursing.

Public Health concept has always interested me. In my opinion, public health is a dynamic and rewarding field that offers great personal fulfillment by working towards preventing disease, prolonging life, promoting and improving health and well-being of hundreds and thousands of people. What appeals to me the most is that while medicine focuses on healing patients who are ill, public health focuses on preventing illness. Effective public health programs save money on medical costs in addition saving lives.

I am prepared to work well and gain experience in order to be useful in making decisions beneficial to my every patient and community as a whole. As a result of my excellent training in school in the fields of environmental and medical sciences I will be able to make a significant contribution to the organization I will be chosen to work for.I will work enthusiastically and rigorously in scrupulous and innovative way toward the accomplishment of goals.

                                        My Nursing Phylosophy

Nursing essentially is an art of caring based upon nursing theories and scientifically supported evidence-based practice. The concept of nursing care includes promotion of health and wellness, prevention of illness, restoration of health, and facilitation of healing of the person. Recipients of nursing care may be individuals, families, groups or communities.

My nursing philosophy resonates with Jean Watson’s theory of caring. I consider human beings in the holistic context of their physiological, psychological, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual determinants. I believe that the process of caring continues after the person is cured through promotion of health and wellness and further prevention of illness. I view health as a dynamic state of optimal functioning and the ultimate right of all people directed by their personal choices.

My academic background and skills I have developed from clinical rotations support my strong interest in nursing career. I have completed my Associate Degree in Nursing at Borough of Manhattan Community College and successfully passed National Council Licensure Examination. I have volunteered at the Endoscopy Unit of New York Downtown Hospital to make a valuable contribution to the community and to acquire clinical experience. Shortly after that I became a nursing student of baccalaureate program of New York City College of Technology. I am convinced that any nurse should be involved into lifelong learning as healthcare evolves so quickly. Therefore, my long term goal is pursuing education in Graduate School to advance my nursing skills and competence.

A variety of nursing roles and practice settings offer nurses the opportunity to collaborate within a complex system while making a unique contribution. I must say that my choice of nursing was one of the most important decisions in my life. In this occupation I can help people and can make a difference in the society, as well as to fulfill my scientific interest in health related disciplines.  It is very important for me, as nurse, to be able to combine the roles of a care provider, a researcher, an educator, an advocate, and a leader. My top priority is delivering high quality, compassionate, culturally competent, and patient-centered care.
