Part 6 – Repurposing “Feminist Literary Criticism”
“Why should I have a raise”
I say to my sisters, “I don’t want to compete but, I have to”
The man sitting next to me does what I do
Follows my lead
Not brave enough, to tell his fellow
men – what is wrong
“I don’t want to marry right now”
I say to my mother, she tells me “I will be alone”
Families overflowing, finding money to support
I want to be educated
“I want to be a lawyer”
My uncles say, “We won’t be surprised if you drop out”
They say that women don’t deserve to be in the court room
And if you do “can you fight like a man”
I say “I can fight like a woman”
I know what I want
I can grab it
I don’t need a man
All I have to do is fight for it
