Self Analysis

While accomplishing my Associates Degree in nursing, I realized that a lot of attention and focus was put on nursing interventions, various prognosis, assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating. In the Bachelor’s Program there was a lot more in depth concepts that were introduced to me such as leadership, urban health, managing and more. Throughout this program I can say that I have gained great confidence in being a nurse. It helped me develop a voice at work and not be afraid to speak up when something wrong is being done. This program created a diverse pattern of education that allowed us to be distinctive when it comes to employers looking to hire registered nurses. The expansion in knowledge compared to the Associates Degree program is strongly portrayed in the BSN program. It creates all nurses ready for leadership positions and a leader mind set. This program opens your eyes to other settings of health disparities and not just focus on acute care settings. I was able to learn about the health disparities in different neighborhoods and how as a nurse we can educate and be the voice of those who are living in poverty. It is common to overlook neighborhoods whose individuals primarily live under poverty, however these are the individuals who need our help the most. I learned about community health and urban health which is something I never looked deep into. Being that I am almost done with my BSN, I feel that I have obtained a great amount of knowledge to see healthcare as not just a medical necessity however a continuous subject that requires education, patience and advocacy.
