Who was I two years ago? I didn’t know. I was a 28-year-old flight attendant confused and not knowing what direction my future was going in. Everyone thought I had the perfect life. They thought I had the perfect job, the perfect look, the perfect attitude, little did they know nothing was perfect. I was not happy. I was extremely depressed and hid it very well. I was incomplete and felt something was missing. I’ve always had a true passion of wanting to help others mainly in the medical field where I could one day extend my gift internationally to those less fortunate.

I was on a layover in Sydney Australia, when the thought of going back to college dawned on me…question was, what should I do? Continue on with a master’s degree in chemistry or perhaps start an entirely new career. I had no idea. All I knew was I wanted to help others. Later that same day the thought of dental hygiene came to mind. I didn’t know much about this career so I immediately research on the Internet and was instantly captivated. There’s the option of having a great salary, flexible hours while educating & helping others. It was exactly what I wanted, so I applied to City Tech DH program however sadly they were not accepting any more students therefore I would have to wait till the following year in order to obtain eligibility. That was not what I wanted to hear so I figured that was a sign to accept a job offer in Dubai. Literally the very next day, which was three days prior to the fall 12’ semester beginning, I received a phone call from the department stating there was an available spot open and if I was still interested. I was in a state of shock and of course I said YES. From that day forward I’ve never looked back!!!

This program has taught me discipline, determination, endurance and that nothing is impossible as long as it is not set in stone. There were times I felt as if I couldn’t continue however my family, peers and professors were very encouraging. This has been an extremely rigorous experience yet through all the hardships and tribulations that surfaced today I can say it was all worth it in the end. Nothing can compare to the feeling I get when my patients express to me they are more then satisfied with the results of their dental treatment. Especially when in the past they’ve had dental fears/phobia’s and is now looking forward to their recall visits. Two years ago my plan was to move to Dubai however two years later I’m looking forward to becoming a Registered Dental Hygienist. It’s absolutely amazing the direction life can take you and if anyone knows this it would be me!
