Philosophy to me is a nurse’s beliefs and attitude on how patients should be cared for and how they will provide nursing care.  My nursing philosophy encompasses such concepts as caring, trust, support as well as therapeutic and holistic care.

The concepts of caring, trust and support all work together to foster a relationship.  A nurse must care in order to develop a connection with a patient. It is only through developing a connection that a patient’s trust can be gained. Support allows a patient to feel comfortable to express their feelings and empowers them to make positive health choices. Once a nurse gains a patient’s trust and supports them, a nurse can provide therapeutic care, which in turn is holistic. Therapeutic care promotes a patient’s wellness and health, rather than prevents an illness. I believe that nursing is about caring for a patient not taking care of an illness.
