Two people taking notes

Working at OpenLab has been a great experience so far. Our team meets weekly through Zoom to discuss the agendas for the upcoming week, review the work we’ve accomplished, provide constructive feedback, etc. The internship is fully remote which is great because it saves me a tremendous amount of time that I would otherwise have spent commuting back and forth, moreover, it does not require hands-on work thus I have not missed out on any physical work experience. When we meet in Zoom, our webcam is turned on. I noticed the supervisors are dressed in neutral attire and have blurred backgrounds to minimize any distractions during the session. I also try to dress neutral and allow myself to wear clothes that I normally would not wear in a professional setting.

Most of the time, I carry out my tasks on my home desk where I have my monitor and other tools. Thus, I try to keep my desk neat and organized so I need anything I won’t have to search for. Maintaining a clean and organized workspace helps me to be productive and accomplish my goals. There is a requirement of ten work hours per week, and interns are provided with a time tracker spreadsheet to record their hours and write comments on their work. I usually prefer to plan out tasks for the week and spread them out, as I also have other classes and need to manage my time effectively.
