Ethics in Design II – A

As a designer I have often looked at images for inspiration. Because I am also an Illustrator, I am especially careful when it comes to being “too inspired”. For me as a creative, it almost ruins my process if I spend too much time, if any at all, looking at someone else’s interpretations or solutions to the problem. This has helped me create truly original pieces in my career. However, whenever I use an image or photo that does not belong to me, I always credit the author.

Through a recent experience, I collaborated with a photographer, makeup artist, model, and photographers for my jewelry line photo shoot. All participants had stakes in the project as the resulting images would be used as samples of our respective work. We all shared the images online and gave credit to all the creators involved. Practicing ethical behavior when sharing another’s work is always recommended and important to avoid lawsuits and losing money and credibility.
