Landing the Job

The process to land this internship was quite intense. I found out about the opportunity from Professor Goetz who posted on the COMD Internship Site. I applied to CUNY Cultural Corps with my resume, transcript, and portfolio. I was asked to come back to formally interview for the program. The first round of group screenings on zoom consisted of delivering an elevator pitch in 30 seconds. The second round consisted of answering questions in a breakout room with 5 other people with only 3 minutes on the clock for all 5 people to give their individual answer. The final activity consisted of creating a mock project for one of the cultural organizations involved in the program and then creating a deck and presenting it cohesively as a group with only 25 minutes to ideate, make slides, and discuss details, and only 5 minutes to present.

The following step involved applying directly to the organizations while providing our schedules, resumes, and portfolios for the potential supervisors to review. We were required to apply to a minimum of 8 organizations. The next step was to research each organization that I applied to and preparing for the each of the eight 15-minute interview/panels with each respective organization. All interviews went very well, and I felt like I was able to make connections with most of the interviewers. I am happy that I was placed in with my first choice in the position that makes the most sense for me professionally.
