The City That Occasionally Sleeps

Lonely night in NYC

This photo was taken in January, after a storm called Winter Storm Jonas. In this photo, the Studium of this photograph is that it was taken late at night, near the entrance of Manhattan bridge on the Manhattan side. You can also see the Manhattan Bridge Arch and Colonnade, a NYC landmark, in the background. The photo’s dominant impression is the feeling of loneliness in a busy city.  This photo is also a documentary photo of the aftermath of the winter storm.

Night Sky and Bright Lights

image1

The photo is a stadium photo, because it displays the famous Robert F. Kennedy (Triborough) Bridge as well as Wards Island Park to the right and to the left the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The photo is using the rule of thirds as shown because the subject is not completely displayed due to the trees covering parts of the bridge, it needs to be more centered. The dominant impression of the photo shown is calming.

My Apple Laptop

I took this picture of my apple laptop because it followed the rule of thirds;aligning a subject with the guidelines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section. The stadium of this picture is my apple laptop because it’s the main focus and it initially gets one attention. To me the mood of this photo is calm. This is not an artwork but rather a documentary.

Swimming dog, 2016

20160701_175022 In this photo “swimming dog ” by Justin Morales, 2016 we see a brown pit bull swimming in an in-ground pool. In the backround we can see a dark brown fence with flowers growing at its base. Its sunny out the picture seems to have been taking early afternoon. The dominant impression is happy and the profilmic event is a pitbull swimming in a pool. This is a documentary photo and the photo realism is high.

2pm in Coney Island

In this photo, you can see that dominant impression of this photo is this a typical fall afternoon in Coney Island. You have a tree off in the corner changing colors while others are just beginning to. You can get a bit of the view of the boardwalk, the sand , and the ocean. You also see two buildings which are actually retirement and rehabilitation centers. However, when I see a photo like this, especially with the changing color of the trees, it reminds that school is officially back. I remember when I was in kindergarten and one of the first things we did was color in the trees for which season we thought it was. Ever since then, I see tree changing colors I always think about school officially being back. Other than that punctum, this photo also can be classified  as a documentary photo since there is no real art being portrayed within said photo.  This photo even uses a bit of the rule of thirds as the two main focuses of the photo, the buildings, are not centered in the photo. received_1142817202466725

Black Flower in my Patio

This is a picture of a black flower that is in my house patio. First of all the studium the flower which has a lot of spikes coming from it and look like they might hurt. There is obviously no rule of thirds present in this picture as I wanted the flower to be the center of the picture or any depth of field since this was an extremely closed up picture taken with my phone. Lastly the reality effect on this picture is high since this is flower which name I do not know but its real and even while being closed up to the camera it doesn’t look like something that might be fake.

Morning Coffee

This is a landscape photography. Its studium  is a wide outdoor shot from a balcony during sun rise. We can clearly visualize the skyline, a boat in shadows, a house in the background, and the reflection of the sky colors at the first rays of sunlight. Furthermore, the palm and a cup of coffee  evokes nostalgia.

The rule of thirds  applies to the palm and the cup of coffee.

View Of San Juan

View of San Juan

This photo is using the rule of thirds, because the subject is not centered rather in the far right. The photo is a studium photo, because it views a background of the city of San Juan. The dominant impression of the photo is happiness.

Empty Subway Station

20161005_165327

The studium of this photo is a platform with brown tiles surrounded by train tracks on both sides. In the center an empty bench is visible and above it there’s a board with the wait times for the next trains. On the green pillars theres signs indicating the name of the stop. As the platform continues it seems to merge into a straight line. The absence of lfe in the photo makes the dominant impression be one of loneliness or emptiness. Theres also a reality effect, since nothing is  changed or edited.

Intersection in my neighborhood

walking home

walking home, October 2016

The reality effect of this photo is very high, because there are no edits at all. The rule of thirds can be applied to this photo as well, because in one section there’s the sky and some trees, in another section is the cars and the building. The last section is the asphalt of the road. The studium of the photo is shown very clearly. We can see that the day is cloudy, and the sun is behind the clouds temporarily. The leaves on the trees are turning brown, so we know that this photo was taken in the fall season.
