This was one of our final Projects that involved creating our own personal flag. The purpose of this assignment was to show all of things we have learned this semester and give a meaning behind for our flag. What you see above is the final result of my flag. Some terns used through this project were “Color”, “Form”, “Shape”, “Value”, “Pattern”, “Line” and “Variety”.

  • Color – Also referred to as hue, color is the appearance of an object created by the quality of light it reflects.
  • Form – A three-dimensional object or, in an artwork, the representation of a three dimensional object, defined by contour, height, depth, and width.
  • Shape – A two-dimensional figure created by connecting actual or implied lines that enclose an area of space.
  • Value – The lightness or darkness of a color.
  • Pattern – The regular repetition of colors, lines, shapes, or forms in an artwork.
  • Line – A mark on a surface, usually created by a pen, pencil, or brush. Lines vary in width, length, direction, color and degree of curve, and can be two dimensional or implied.
  • Variety – The use of different elements of art to add interest to an artwork.

My flag uses different meanings that relate to my life. The symbol in the middle is a origami version of a crown with a green border. The meaning of Origami is “Transform” which means that I am transforming into a king which is also the reason why I used a crown. The crown consist of various shapes with a broken edge on the right side. This represents that I am imperfect but I am still royalty because its a crown. The color is of crown is values of Yellow which represents Optimism. I used a white background to represent “Opportunity to be creative” and “Freedom”. I used Earth tones to represent my connection with the earth and my history.

This assignment was great. Everyone in class had there own amazing version of their flag. It was tedious to find a color that wouldn’t blend with the crown but I think it turned out great.
