Have you ever needed help with finding ways to research? Do you also not know where to start? Well try out our BRAND NEW CARD GAME! It’s called Estimated Research Tool or ERT for short. It’s a card game based on a drinking game called Kings, unlike Kings you do not get drunk from alcohol but drunk off knowledge. Kings is a card game where a person draws a card and based off that card they must do that task, for example if a person draws a 4 the last person to touch the floor has to drink. ERT is similar but depending on the cards you choose you must use that research tool that is associated with that card. There are two decks in ERT the RED deck and the BLACK deck. The RED deck can also be called the Research Site deck where that person would then use the research site that is based on the card. The Black deck could also be called the Search Engine deck and with this deck a person uses a search engine based on that card.
In college, research papers can be a difficult thing to do if a person doesn’t know where or how to research. So this game that we have created is a way to make that task a little easier. We looked up the top 10 best sites in each category and use them to create what each card will do. Some sites that were used we have used as well like our school libraries site. Since not everyone goes to the same school the RED card with the value of 10 is to use the library that is in your school. The rules of the game is simple the person splits the deck into two decks one RED and one BLACK and shuffle each deck separately and the player would then draw a card from each and whatever card they get is the site and engine that they will use to research their topic.
This game can also be used when people are doing a group research project. With this researching can be divided up by each person. Instead of one person picking one card each player would pick up a card and the values they get will determine what they have to use/do. This game can be good for up to 10 people since groups are not usually very big.
Having a game like this in college can be very beneficial to students in need of help with future papers. All rules could be posted in all libraries so that when a student walks in and asks for help a librarian can show and explain the game to them so that there could be more help. If a person does not know how to use the site they pick they could go to the library and ask more about the particular site.
Some sites that we use are the school library, Google, New York Times, and Yahoo just to name a few that are included in the game. Some sites that we use may not have been heard of by some people but are still useful search engines and research sites.
Having decks split into two decks gives the players not just one option but two. With two options they have more places to research their topic. Also if they choose and want to use another place to help find the topic they are looking for, another card from each deck can be drawn so the player is not stuck with just two ways to find their research topic.
One thing most of, if not all, college students have to do is a research project. This game will be a solution to all the problems students have to deal with. It can also be a fun way to do research and make typing or researching your topic fun. So what do you say? Who wants to play a research game? I know you guys do.
