Economic Geography

The Dominican Republic’s economic geography, or its distribution of industrialization of wealth (Sternquist, 2007, P. 6, Par. 4), has been affected due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic along with its high rate in crime and violence (OCHA, 2022). According to OCHA, or the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the unemployment rate has been at 6.4% since 2020, to present time, which means more people will be at the risk of falling into poverty. Additionally, crime in the Dominican Republic remains to be a huge continuous issue which is causing a challenge on its economic growth that happens to be linked to the country’s strict COVID-19 policies (OCHA, 2022).
