Arestin
Case 1: 1 site for Arestin
- Initial probing depth was 5 mm on #30DL
- Radiographs showed generalized horizontal bone loss
- When probing the day of placing Arestin, bleeding was noted
- After 5 weeks patient came back for re-evaluation
- Patient confirmed following instructions after Arestin placement
- Probing depth after 5 weeks was still 5 mm but there was no bleeding when probing
- Due to having no effect on the pocket depth, the patient was referred to periodontist for further evaluation/treatment
Case 2: 3 sites for Arestin
- Initial probing depths were 5 mm in #3DL #5ML, #5MB
- Radiographs showed generalized horizontal bone loss
- When probing on the day of placing Arestin, bleeding was noted
- Patient confirmed following instructions after Arestin placement
- After 5 weeks the patient came in for re-evaluation. Probing depths in #3DL decreased to 3 mm. Probing depths in #5ML and #5MB decreased to 4 mm. No bleeding was noted when probing
- In this case Arestin had a positive effect to the patient’s gum health as it reduced the pocket depth 1-2mm
- Patient was instructed to keep up their oral hygiene routine at home to maintain their oral health
Pulp Necrosis
- Patient presented with a yellowish colored tooth #9 seen clinically
- Patient was asked if they were aware of the color difference of that tooth and for how long
- Patient mentioned they never had any dental treatment done on that tooth and that they recall having a bad fall as a child
- A periapical radiograph was taken to further evaluate
- It was determined that there was pulp necrosis on tooth #9 and patient was referred to an endodontist
