Week 4: AI PSA
Are you worried about losing your job to AI? Do not worry you are not alone! (From Errol F. Richardson’s “Everybody Is Talking About A.I. What the Heck Is It, Anyway?”) After the launch of ChatGPT, everybody had an opinion, and nobody knew what they were talking about.” The idea that Artificial Intelligence can replace you in your current workplace is founded from ignorance in how it works. AI will never replace you once you finish reading this PSA and you get the necessary skills and assets required to master control over it. Prompt Engineering and knowing how to get what you want from AI is necessary as you will use AI as a tool to help streamline and simplify processes (NOT to do the entire process for you) in order to become more efficient at your job. We must come together to use these tools within our skill sets to improve our knowledge and to work ethically in collaboration with these changing times.
AI PSA 1: Embracing AI in the Workplace
(Prompt: Using the above PSA rewrite it into an essay meant for working professionals in order to convey the idea that AI will not replace you in your job. Improve the grammar to suit the level of the audience and keep it in between 100-200 words.)
Are you concerned about the impact of AI on your job? You’re not alone. Following the introduction of ChatGPT, many expressed apprehension, often rooted in misconceptions about AI’s capabilities. Understanding AI is key to recognizing that it is a tool designed to enhance, not replace, your role.
By developing skills in prompt engineering and learning how to effectively harness AI, you can streamline and simplify your work processes. AI should be viewed as an assistant that complements your expertise, allowing you to focus on higher-level tasks and decision-making.
As we navigate this evolving landscape, it’s crucial to collaborate ethically with these technologies. Embrace AI as an opportunity for professional growth, and together we can adapt and thrive in this new era. Let’s harness these tools to elevate our skills and improve our work environment.
AI PSA 2: Ethically Using AI as a Learning Tool
Are you concerned about how AI might affect your education? You’re not alone. With the rise of tools like ChatGPT, many students feel unsure about how to navigate this technology. It’s essential to recognize that AI should be used as an aid in your learning process, not as a replacement for your efforts.
By mastering skills like prompt engineering, you can effectively utilize AI to enhance your understanding of course material and streamline your study processes. Think of AI as a supportive resource that can help clarify concepts, suggest research avenues, or generate ideas, rather than doing the work for you.
As you engage with AI, remember to use it ethically. It’s vital to maintain academic integrity by ensuring that your work reflects your own understanding and insights. Embrace AI as a powerful tool to deepen your learning and develop critical skills, preparing you for success in an increasingly digital world. Let’s make the most of these advancements together!
Reflection:
I think the AI did a better job at conveying the message in its choice of vocabulary. I think I should learn to use more words I know as I can tell what most of these words are in advance but it never occurred to me to use these words as they’re not in my everyday vocabulary. It also makes better use of different sentence types to convey a more convincing message with its use of exclamatory sentences being able to more accurately convey the feelings I wanted to convey.
The toning down of the vocabulary for the college student PSA is also very useful for me to know as it also changes its tone from a more professional one that you would expect in, say a work announcement, to more of a less uptight feeling one while still being school appropriate in its structure.
Week ?: Rough Draft Rewrite
Are you worried about losing your job to AI? Do not worry you are not alone! (From Errol F. Richardson’s “Everybody Is Talking About A.I. Chat GPT Iteration 1:
Input:
Output:
Public Service Announcement: AI Can Boost Your Career—Here’s How
Worried about AI taking over your job? You’re not alone. Since the launch of AI tools like ChatGPT, there’s been plenty of hype and fear. But here’s the real story: AI is not here to replace you. It’s a tool to enhance your capabilities, and knowing how to use it can significantly boost your efficiency.
The first step to harnessing AI is Prompt Engineering. Think of this as giving AI clear, precise instructions so it produces exactly what you need. This skill allows you to guide AI to create high-quality outputs tailored to your tasks. But no single prompt will always be perfect—iterations are essential. By adjusting your prompts and refining them based on feedback, you’re able to get better, more targeted results over time. This iterative process is what transforms AI from a basic tool into a customized assistant.
With AI, you can automate repetitive tasks, gain insights faster, and streamline complex processes. It’s not about letting AI do everything; it’s about working with AI to sharpen your performance and save time on routine tasks, so you can focus on what matters most.
The fear of losing jobs to AI often comes from misunderstanding. By learning how to master AI tools through prompt engineering and thoughtful iterations, you’ll be embracing the future of work—and becoming a more valuable asset in any role.
Chat GPT Iteration 2:
Input:
Output:
Public Service Announcement: AI is Your Career Partner, Not a Replacement
Worried about AI taking over your job? You’re not alone. Since the launch of tools like ChatGPT, discussions about AI’s role have sparked fear and uncertainty. But here’s the reality: AI isn’t here to replace you—it’s here to enhance your productivity and efficiency, not do the entire job for you.
Prompt Engineering is the first step to mastering AI. This skill involves crafting specific, clear instructions that guide AI to generate exactly what you need. It’s not about AI taking over complex tasks but about using it to automate the repetitive, time-consuming parts of your workflow. Imagine having an assistant to handle the basics while you focus on higher-level problem-solving and decision-making.
Effective AI use also relies on iterations, or refining prompts to improve results over time. This process allows you to build on the AI’s responses, fine-tuning until the output is just right. AI is a tool to streamline processes, make data insights faster, and add convenience—not to replace your expertise or judgment. You stay in the driver’s seat, directing AI to complement your work rather than substitute it.
Fears around AI often stem from misunderstandings. By learning prompt engineering and refining your use of AI, you’ll see it as a powerful ally. Embracing AI doesn’t mean stepping aside; it means stepping up with new skills to ensure you remain invaluable in the evolving workplace.
Reflection 2: I decided to add more to my PSA as i felt like some things were missing from the previous one. The AI here has immensely improved on the essay in a way that I prefer over the previous two iterations. The higher vocabulary in previous ones was nice, however, I feel like even if you were to work at your job you would not want to have to deal with all of those words. I don’t know how to explain it but I feel like the last iteration has sufficient use of vocabulary while also not feeling like you were talking to a high school student. The wording is proper and professional while not feeling too stuffy having to read it.
The Five Pieces of the Final PSA
