I had finished editing the photos from the last post and they came out okay, but I personally feel as if I could do a lot better than how I started off, if I was evaluating it I would probably say 6.5/10 as the beginning is the most important part and sometimes you aren’t lucky enough to just redo it. I might not be able to retake the photo so I need to make sure I got the beginning down packed.
Scott let me lead a shoot for a product to see what I learned so far. It was pretty cool. I had memorized the setup needed for that kind of product but I had messed up the lightning and the focus on the camera. I had messed up the focus because I didn’t take in court my height while I was setting up so I wasn’t able to tell if I was in focus till after I checked the sd card, and I had the lightning too high for the iso I was using so I had too much light coming into the photo a couple of times.
This week is like any other but, I forgot to say how what I’m doing connects to my major. During the internship, they teach me about the inside of marketing and advertising. They explain why all of the stuff we’re doing falls into advertising on social media. It’s cool too because it’s mostly just me and Scott, outside of the emailing. Everything feels kinda like a collaboration every time I’m there. Scott is a great teacher. He never shut down my questions or ideas. But he’s not against correcting me if my ideas are wrong
I don’t really know what to talk about this week my internship wasn’t too bad. It was actually easier than normal. The product we were supposed to shoot didn’t get to us on time so we used the time to reorganize and send out emails. It allowed us to create a google sheet that let us know how much equipment we had and the amount of product we had on set for the company. It wasn’t a bad day but it showed me that in a setting like that even when you think there’s nothing you could do, or to do, there’s something to be done
I forgot to explain how my day at Pattern Brand would typically go. It’s easiest to split it up into three sections. At the beginning of the day, it’s mostly just prep. We mostly just set up the day and figure out what we need to shoot. We use this time to set up how the rest of the day would go. The middle of the day is when we’re shooting the actual product and communicating with the stylist and marketing team to make sure it’s completed right. Last, we would have meetings and clean the set and reset everything to make the next day easier to start off.
Scott explained how the environment of how a photo studio normally is and how it isn’t as relaxed as it is at Pattern Brands. He also explained how we’re not supposed to take personal photos and or videos on set has it could get us and the company in a bunch of trouble as some of the stuff we work with hasn’t been released yet
Scott started teaching me how to set up the set for product photography. In addition, he explained the difference between soft and hard light and how they can translate into the real world of marketing. He always when in-depth about how the customer would take it and how to use both lighting techniques correctly
The culture around is for a lack of words, relaxed but firm. It’s not like the regular office space. Sometimes it generally feels like a hangout with acquaintances. There’s no dress code to what I know of. The staff travels a lot so there are a lot of google meetings. The typical workday is extremely flexible or extremely tense. In my department, we try to complete the assignment as quickly as possible while making sure we do it correctly. We don’t have a set “lunchtime” but we normally get lunch around 12-1 pm. The software we use is Capture one, and Adobe suites for the most part.
My role in the company is production assistant. I work one on one with my supervisor Scott Bleicher, who is the senior Photographer for Pattern Brands. I didn’t have an interview because everyone was already familiar with each other. Because, the heads of the company knew me since I was in junior high, I was pretty much spoken for. The only thing I had to do the introduce myself to the newer staff who didn’t see me grow up
