Hello, my name is Natalee Carela and I am a student at NYCCT’s Dental Hygiene program. Since the beginning, it has been a learning experience for me to understand the terminology and absorb the information taught within the Dental Hygiene courses. I was overwhelmed that I lacked experience working in a dental office as compared to my fellow classmates but I was determined to become a great hygienist and thrive in teaching my patient oral hygiene instructions to benefit their overall health.
During my first semester, I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I had to learn to manage being a mom for the first time, balance my schoolwork and work full time. I gave birth to my son in July and was back in school in August. It was challenging but I was motivated to graduate as a dental hygienist.
I have learned how important it is to be persistent in order to accomplish your dreams. This journey has been a challenge for me in every aspect and I am grateful for all of it. I have gained knowledge that will help me throughout my career as a dental hygienist. I will be graduating from NYCCT more knowledgeable and passionate about my career and I look forward to educating my future patients and teaching them proper oral hygiene techniques.
