“I absolutely love immersive art: that feeling of becoming one with a space, of having your reality bent and all its rules slowly broken. I’ve spent the last few years admiring multi-sensory experiences by the world’s leading artists, and I wanted to fully build one in person before I graduated. I’m specifically using this project to experiment with perception and disorientation, and whether that changes when you project onto several fragmented surfaces positioned closely together (rather than one flat, uniform surface, like a wall.)”
My culmination project is an immersive installation that combines origami with projection art. Viewers enter a pitch-black room, where a flock of paper birds hang suspended in mid-air. As a soundtrack unfolds, the projector cuts through the darkness & paints the birds with colorful trails of light — much like brushstrokes on a canvas. The visuals are choreographed to the music, so the show picks up pace and becomes more intense as the tension rises.
