Hello everyone, my name is Mercedes Gutierrez and Welcome to my E-Portfolio! Attending New York College of Technology has been a unforgettable experience for me as I joined a great team in the Dental Hygiene Department. I’ve met great classmates and had a chance to work with a group of admirable professors. Here are a few things I would like to share with you about my background. I was born in the Dominican Republic in a small town surrounded by mountains and beautiful waterfalls, which it is best known for. I moved to New York City when I was 4 years old with my parents and 8 sibling. I met my husband of 22 years in high school and we have built a wonderful family of our own. I have been employed for the last 16 years at a dental office in Midtown Manhattan as a dental assistant. About 5 years ago I got my ” What do I want to do with the rest of my life ” calling and with the support of my family, co-workers and even my patients from work I decided to pursue a career in dental hygiene. In doing so, I will have the opportunity to work side by side with my patient and to help them establish a healthier oral environment, after all we are in the business of saving teeth and creating a healthier lifestyle in which I am looking forward to making a difference in their lives.
