This is my favorite piece from the Museum. I love how the artist used many different shades of blue in the background to create the mountains. The reflections are really prominent making it evident that the two people are floating above water. The color and texture of the image is very soft and soothing. Christopher Winter did a good job at adding the pink without making it the main focus or distraction. He used a cool tone of pink to mix well with the rest of the colors. The people look very relaxed as they float over the calm lake. Christopher really put thought into what tones of blue he included and made sure they would compliment each other well.
I really enjoy the story behind this piece. Qin based this on her personal experience of migrating from Hangzhou to Long Island. The white silhouettes on the blue background makes it really interesting and mysterious. The people flowing through the space along the the background color makes the mood very somber.
I love the deep blue color of the silhouette. Klein described his use of blue as it being from “the most intense core of fire, the source of heat”. I thought that was really interesting because it’s not your typical or expected correlation which gives a deeper connection to the piece.
