Explore creative visual communication through graphic design. Using type and graphics, students will participate in the process of communicating concepts by experimenting with image-making techniques. Acquire the professional knowledge, language, and processes neededāfrom initial thumbnail to final presentationāin multiple disciplines such as graphic design, web design, advertising, motion, illustration, broadcast design production, and others.

This is a beginning course that explores the technical and aesthetic concerns of photography. Through the fundamental concepts of light, exposure, and composition, students will develop the ability to control photographic style to create visually engaging images
COMD 1233 Section OL70 Figure Drawing, Fall 2020
A drawing course developing visual awareness of the human figure. Students develop an understanding of the basic forms of the human body, how those forms are connected and move, and how to draw those forms proportionally. Students also consider how the human form relates to the world around it, developing a clear understanding of how to create a composition containing proportional figures within a space according to perspective.
This basic design and color theory course explores graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design, as well as the design process, including idea development through final execution. This is a course in visual literacy and the design process: How we see, how we analyze the effects of our vision, and how we craft a design that will have energy and content. All projects will include thumbnail sketches, discussion and research. A weekly scrapbook will be kept. Media used are paint, paper, ink, pencil, ruler, knife, glue, and digital software for expressing graphic ideas. Numerous critiques will take place throughout the course and studentsā active engagement in group discussion will play a vital role in establishing an atmosphere of collaboration and shared learning.
