Bio

Dr. Sylvia E. Ephraim
My academic journey includes Berkeley College where I obtained an invaluable education. I obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and graduated with honors. My journey also includes an induction as a member of the Honor’s Society in Business, Management, and Administration, Sigma Beta Delta. My journey continued at King Graduate School of Business after which I decided to go back to school in September 2011 to pursue a Doctorate Degree at Capella University. Being the workaholic that I am, I decided to pursue a Post Master’s Certificate as well in Education in College Teaching. I completed the Certificate in 2011 with a 4.0, and a PhD in Organization and Management in 2014. Again, graduating with honors.

I am stating this, not to toot my own horn, but to encourage and motivate you (my students) to let you know that whatever educational journey/ career path you decided to follow that it is doable. If I can do it, you can too. I believe in personal growth, and I feel less challenged when educators do not enhance my abilities. Merriam, Caffarella, and Baumgartner, (2007) stated part of the job of educators of adults is to help learners; whether, they are learning on their own or in formal learning programs, to be able to plan, carry out, and evaluate their own learning. These situations have influenced my teaching methods where I take time out to make sure my students are grasping the material taught. My own experiences have shaped my teaching style. I believe in going beyond the call of duty to help my students. As stated by Brookfield, (1995) what we do as teachers makes a difference in the world.
