One’s success in the workplace depends almost as much on what you know as how you communicate with others. Without the skills of writing a variety of documents, speaking confidently to an audience, and performing meaningful research that enriches your work and enables others to do their work, you will find yourself left behind while others with those so-called soft skills make strides in their own careers. This class gives you opportunities to strengthen your workplace communication skills through projects and daily writing activities. It is through doing this work over time that you develop communication acumen.
As a student, you will develop and apply mathematical, logical, critical thinking, and statistical skills to solve problems in real-world contexts. You will acquire skills in the fields of algebra, geometry, probability, statistics, and mathematical modeling. You will also have opportunities to develop your reading, writing, oral, and listening skills.
The theory and application of procedure in civil litigation with emphasis on New York State courts. The role of the paralegal in drafting documents for litigation and techniques in discovery. The use of the computer in automated litigation support. File maintenance and how to prepare a case for trial.
