Stu­dents will learn ad­vanced tech­niques for de­sign, il­lus­tra­tion, and pro­duc­tion on the com­puter using vec­tor graph­ics. Stu­dents are ex­posed to pro­fes­sional tools using soft­ware such as Adobe Il­lus­tra­tor on the Mac­in­tosh op­er­at­ing sys­tem.

Students will learn advanced techniques for design, illustration, and production on the computer using vector graphics. Students are exposed to professional tools using software such as Adobe Illustrator on the Macintosh operating system.

This course ex­plores cre­ative vi­sual think­ing and its im­por­tance to com­mu­ni­ca­tion de­sign. Stu­dents ex­per­i­ment with im­age-mak­ing tech­niques and learn to use graphic tools to com­mu­ni­cate con­cepts and ideas. The course em­pha­sizes the in­te­gra­tion of com­mu­ni­ca­tion con­cepts, type and graph­ics and their re­la­tion­ship to mul­ti­ples dis­closes. Stu­dents de­velop pro­jects from thumb­nails through final pre­sen­ta­tions.

This course explores creative visual thinking and its importance to communication design. Students experiment with image-making techniques and learn to use graphic tools to communicate concepts and ideas. The course emphasizes the integration of communication concepts, type and graphics and their relationship to multiples discloses. Students develop projects from thumbnails through final presentations.

The com­par­i­son will also rec­om­mend the best prac­tice, spec­i­fi­ca­tion or stan­dard for using a spe­cific form in a spe­cific ap­pli­ca­tion. The course will in­clude basic dig­i­tal imag­ing ter­mi­nol­ogy, and tech­niques in­clud­ing size, res­o­lu­tion, color space and file el­e­ments, mea­sure­ments and file for­mats. Stu­dents are in­tro­duced to dig­i­tal imag­ing con­cepts through soft­ware such as Adobe Pho­to­shop and Il­lus­tra­tor on the Mac­in­tosh op­er­at­ing sys­tem. Scan­ning and dig­i­tal pho­tog­ra­phy are in­te­grated into les­son plans.

In this course, students will learn concepts and applied theories of digital media and the two fundamental graphic forms: raster and vector digital images and will define and describe similar and contrasting factors in each kind of image. The comparison will also recommend the best practice, specification or standard for using a specific form in a specific application. The course will include basic digital imaging terminology, and techniques including size, resolution, color space and file elements, measurements and file formats. Students are introduced to digital imaging concepts through software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator on the Macintosh operating system. Scanning and digital photography are integrated into lesson plans.

Nu­mer­ous cri­tiques will take place through­out the course and stu­dents’ ac­tive en­gage­ment in group dis­cus­sion will play a vital role in es­tab­lish­ing an at­mos­phere of col­lab­o­ra­tion and shared learn­ing.

Media used are paint, paper, ink, pencil, ruler, knife, glue, and digital software for expressing graphic ideas. Numerous critiques will take place throughout the course and students’ active engagement in group discussion will play a vital role in establishing an atmosphere of collaboration and shared learning.
