ENG 2575 is an ad­vanced course in ef­fec­tive tech­ni­cal writ­ing tech­niques, in­clud­ing tra­di­tional tech­ni­cal writ­ing forms and World Wide Web com­mu­ni­ca­tion. This course will have stu­dents use elec­tronic media such as In­ter­net, pre­sen­ta­tion, and graph­ics pro­grams to com­mu­ni­cate tech­ni­cal and sci­en­tific in­for­ma­tion to a va­ri­ety of au­di­ences via writ­ten and oral pre­sen­ta­tions. Stu­dents will also an­a­lyze read­ings in sci­ence and tech­nol­ogy, study tech­ni­cal writ­ing mod­els, and prac­tice col­lab­o­ra­tive re­search and pre­sen­ta­tion. Build­ing on pre­vi­ous writ­ing courses, this course will re­in­force clar­ity of think­ing and ex­pres­sion in ef­fec­tive and cor­rect Eng­lish. This is an asyn­chro­nous class — no spec­i­fied meet­ing times.

ENG 2575 is an advanced course in effective technical writing techniques, including traditional technical writing forms and World Wide Web communication. This course will have students use electronic media such as Internet, presentation, and graphics programs to communicate technical and scientific information to a variety of audiences via written and oral presentations. Students will also analyze readings in science and technology, study technical writing models, and practice collaborative research and presentation. Building on previous writing courses, this course will reinforce clarity of thinking and expression in effective and correct English. This is an asynchronous class — no specified meeting times.

This course is an in­tro­duc­tion to se­cu­rity is­sues fac­ing com­puter pro­fes­sion­als today. Stu­dents will ac­quire the knowl­edge and skills on how to main­tain the in­tegrity, au­then­tic­ity, avail­abil­ity and pri­vacy of data. It cov­ers com­puter viruses, au­then­ti­ca­tion mod­els, cer­tifi­cates, group pol­icy, cryp­tog­ra­phy, and ac­cess con­trol. It also in­tro­duces the fun­da­men­tal se­cu­rity is­sues of pro­gram­ming, data­base and web server. Other top­ics in­clude how to mon­i­tor the sys­tem for sus­pi­cious ac­tiv­ity and fend off at­tacks, to keep spies and Spam out of the e-mail, to take con­trol of se­cu­rity by en­crypt­ing data, to de­sign Ac­tive di­rec­tory, block­ing ports, and lock­ing down the reg­istry.

This course is an introduction to security issues facing computer professionals today. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills on how to maintain the integrity, authenticity, availability and privacy of data. It covers computer viruses, authentication models, certificates, group policy, cryptography, and access control. It also introduces the fundamental security issues of programming, database and web server. Other topics include how to monitor the system for suspicious activity and fend off attacks, to keep spies and Spam out of the e-mail, to take control of security by encrypting data, to design Active directory, blocking ports, and locking down the registry.
