My name is Melanie Ward. I was born in Brooklyn New York at Brook dale hospital. I recently graduated from Borough of Manhattan Community College with an Associate degree in liberal arts I am currently attending New York City College of Technology and working on my Bachelors in human services. After attaining my degree in human service I want to attend to Silverman School of school work for my master in social work (MSW).
The reason why I am pursing a undergraduate degree in human services Besides the fact I enjoy helping others is, because I love to feel like I am make a difference in other lives and with my soft generous heart it’s my passion to make a great difference in other people lives. My greatest influence to go into human services profession because I hate to see people suffer, I believe a lot of people are not aware of the help and opportunity they have available to them. Human services workers are there to educate people on opportunities and resource to them to make their life a lot easier. I realize the human service is a broad field of a wide range of opportunities to help people .with the large diverse population this way I can never get tired of working with one specific population. That’s why I believe it’s a great career field for me the rewarding and fast paced environment is exactly where I see myself growing within this field.
Some of my personal and professional experience strength that will enhance my effectiveness for the professional practice s the fact I love to see people happy. The joy from other brings a great happiness to my life. It enlightens me to know I am making a difference in someone’s life. I have a niche for finding the problems to situations and finding a solution to eliminate or resolve an issue. My professional strengths arise from the fact I work three jobs which all include helping people. I work two retails incline jobs which is based on a great deal of customer service. From the experience of working with the retail jobs I know how it important it is for a client or customer to leave feeling satisfied. I go above and beyond to exceed customer expectations. I do the same with the disabled clients in the United States Cerebral Palsy of New York City which I assist disable people with everyday living duties to help them help themselves. I working for UCP makes me feel delighted that I make a person life a little easier.
The client population I am interested in working for is the elderly . I think I would learn more skills and find a different way of tactics of dealing with people and respecting human life. I believe the unique qualities that I have would to work with elderly population with patience, understanding and empathy.
I envision my career path ten years from the time of graduation as phenomenal. My plan is to take all my human service classes and not only achieving good grades in them but also applying what I learn in class to my everyday life. The concepts that I learn in classes can be applied and practice in my everyday life. This can be a great contribution and advantage in the human services field. When it’s time to help my clients not only would I be knowledgeable to the human service framework but I can explain to my clients why it works and how it helped me in my life. Another way I choose to get to my goal is by the hand on experience I get from internships and volunteering this can help contribute in ways to make me an efficient human services worker. Ten years from now I see myself as a social worker in a practice for the elderly.

Many people have a purpose in life my destiny is to be in the human services field. With my passion to have empathy and great customer services skills I was destine to be a social worker. I couldn’t see myself being in any other field that’s means so much to me as human services. Despite on the fact that human service workers do not make a lot of money I have chosen this field practically because I care about others as much as I care about myself.
