Bio

Dr. Kelsey Binion is a health communication scholar, and her research focuses on how individuals talk about their health in everyday contexts. She uses arts-based methodologies to translate research findings in creative modalities for community members. Previously, much of Dr. Binion’s research is related to reproductive health, such as miscarriage and infertility. Dr. Binion enjoys working with students to explore their passions within the health communication field.

IS 9010: Health Communication Campaigns

This independent study is designed to provide the student with an overview of the use of health communication campaigns to promote wellness and reduce risk in a variety of populations, with an emphasis on the critical role of communication theory and practice. This independent study will provide the student with experience of how campaigns are designed, implemented, and evaluated. Topics will include, but are not limited to the history of campaigns, theoretical foundations of campaigns, evidence-based campaign design, campaign effectiveness, risk perceptions, technology and campaigns, and campaigns as educational entertainment.
