This course ex­plores cre­ative vi­sual think­ing and its im­por­tance to com­mu­ni­ca­tion de­sign. Stu­dents will ex­per­i­ment with im­age-mak­ing tech­niques and learn to use graphic el­e­ments to com­mu­ni­cate con­cepts and ideas.

This course explores creative visual thinking and its importance to communication design. Students will experiment with image-making techniques and learn to use graphic elements to communicate concepts and ideas.

This course of­fers an ex­ten­sive in­tro­duc­tion to the tech­ni­cal and aes­thetic prac­tice of Pho­tog­ra­phy.

This course offers an extensive introduction to the technical and aesthetic practice of Photography.

Basic con­cepts re­lated to the two fun­da­men­tal dig­i­tal graphic forms (raster and vec­tor graph­ics) and learn­ing best uses and prac­tices for each. This course cov­ers basic dig­i­tal imag­ing ter­mi­nol­ogy and tech­niques in­clud­ing size, res­o­lu­tion, color space, file el­e­ments, mea­sure­ments, file for­mats, and scan­ning soft­ware and hard­ware. Class pro­jects re­quire stu­dents to ex­plore the mean­ing of com­mu­ni­ca­tion through de­sign and how it cor­re­lates with client sat­is­fac­tion and tar­get au­di­ence. Stu­dents be­come pro­fi­cient with both raster and vec­tor ap­pli­ca­tions, such as Adobe Pho­to­shop and Adobe Il­lus­tra­tor.

Basic concepts related to the two fundamental digital graphic forms (raster and vector graphics) and learning best uses and practices for each. This course covers basic digital imaging terminology and techniques including size, resolution, color space, file elements, measurements, file formats, and scanning software and hardware. Class projects require students to explore the meaning of communication through design and how it correlates with client satisfaction and target audience. Students become proficient with both raster and vector applications, such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

In­tro­duces a va­ri­ety of basic lay­outs and for­mats, build­ing tech­ni­cal and prac­ti­cal flu­ency in set­ting and work­ing with type for both print and screen. This course fur­ther ex­plores top­ics learned in COMD 1127 Type and Media, such as type­face se­lec­tion and the use of the ty­po­graph­i­cal grids. Prob­lem-solv­ing for most com­mon ty­po­graph­i­cal prob­lems is dis­cussed.

Introduces a variety of basic layouts and formats, building technical and practical fluency in setting and working with type for both print and screen. This course further explores topics learned in COMD 1127 Type and Media, such as typeface selection and the use of the typographical grids. Problem-solving for most common typographical problems is discussed.

Eng­lish Com­po­si­tion I is a course in ef­fec­tive essay writ­ing and basic re­search tech­niques, in­clud­ing the use of the li­brary. De­mand­ing read­ings are as­signed as the basis for in-class and on­line dis­cus­sion, and for essay writ­ing.

English Composition I is a course in effective essay writing and basic research techniques, including the use of the library. Demanding readings are assigned as the basis for in-class and online discussion, and for essay writing.
