HUS 4801 provides students with a professionally supervised work experience in a human service agency. On campus weekly classroom seminars assess students’ progress towards learning objectives, explore student’s concerns and professional practice issues. Learning about a community organizing and development theory and practice through community assessment, change strategies, empowerment skills and planning techniques in the profit, non profit and public sector are the focus of this course.

Learning about a community organizing and development theory and practice through community assessment, change strategies, empowerment skills and planning techniques in the profit, non profit and public sector are the focus of this course.

In this course we will explore issues in research and documentation for text (print and digital), images, sound, and multimedia. You will investigate where information comes from and how it is organized in both traditional and emerging media. We will examine the ethics of information use and determine how to critically evaluate sources. Throughout the course, you will create and present research and documentation projects using traditional and emerging media and technologies. This is a writing-intensive course. You should expect to spend roughly 6 hours outside of classroom time preparing for class each week.
