MTEC 3140 Topics and Perspectives in EmergingTechnology Fall 2024

An introduction to the study and analysis of emerging technologies and how this relates to and informs practical process. Students will examine how technologies have evolved historically and develop perspectives on how they would best be developed in the future. Core themes include: the history of information, human-technology interaction, digital technology and culture, and the ethical and social implications of new technologies as the world faces unprecedented precarity. Conceptual frameworks in the field of New Media and Studies of Emerging Technology will be explored through a series of readings, and screenings as we consider technology’s broader implications on society, ethics, and cultural production. Through the application of close reads, critical analysis and discussion; students will write and create multi module projects that investigate key concerns surrounding emerging technology and how these concerns apply to their own media practices. This class will function as an incubator, which nurtures discussion, multiple forms of writing and the sharing of ideas.

MTEC2210 Game Design and Interactive Media, SP2024

This course offers a cross-disciplinary foundation for the design of games and interactive multi-media technology for artists, designers and technologists. Students will learn human-centered design principles and apply these methodologies to collaborative team-based projects across web, mobile and games. Using case studies, brainstorming processes, and rapid analog and digital prototyping, students learn design thinking and problem-solving techniques to enhance usability, incorporate sensory experience, influence perception, increase appeal, and make more effective interactive design decisions.

MTEC 1102-HE90 Production Practices, Fall 2023

This course is a hands-on introduction to the best practices for production techniques used in games, interactive and tangible media product development. Students will acquire a deep understanding of content generation, technology pipeline and delivery systems for creating web, mobile, games, virtual & augmented reality, interactive installation and museum display, wearables and physical computing. Students will learn the roles and responsibilities, build the skills for each role, as well as apply the design and development processes for each medium. They will be introduced to design thinking and rapid prototyping techniques, as well the green light process essential to bringing a product to market. The structure of this course emphasizes an integrated and multi-modal approach to game design, interactive media and physical computing with modeled instruction and practice in the technical aspects of production.

MTEC1101-HD88 – Emerging Media Foundations – Fall 2023

This course is an introduction to emerging, interactive multi-media technology with a focus on interdisciplinary, project-based, cooperative learning. Students will be immersed in the protocols and processes of emerging and interactive media design, including: idea development, research, documentation, presentation, prototyping, and production, which will serve them in the face of rapid changes in technology. Students will explore basic theoretical and applied concepts of audio, visual, haptic, immersive, sensory and interaction design through creative group projects, visiting professionals, field trips and online documentation of their work.

The workshop will enhance the New Student Connection with additional information, activities, and various opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, and current City Tech students. Wizz Wonders Game Development

The Wizz Wonders club aims to provide a community for students interested in all things game design to congregate and express their creativity. We are in partnership with the Bronx Gaming Network! We put together events, such as game jams, in order to practice and show off skills learned from the club. We welcome students at any skill level, we will try our best to teach you fundamentals so you can make your ideas a reality!
