In this course, stu­dents will ex­plore and de­velop sev­eral kinds of in­for­ma­tion graph­ics (data graph­ics, vi­sual ex­pla­na­tions, way find­ing sys­tems) as well as ex­hi­bi­tion de­sign. We will touch on the his­tory of info graph­ics and will find ways they are ap­pear­ing in new tech­nol­ogy. This course is thought-pro­vok­ing, en­cour­ag­ing stu­dents to stretch their minds into new ter­ri­tory while draw­ing upon basic skills of ty­pog­ra­phy, color and com­po­si­tion.

In this course, students will explore and develop several kinds of information graphics (data graphics, visual explanations, way finding systems) as well as exhibition design. We will touch on the history of info graphics and will find ways they are appearing in new technology. This course is thought-provoking, encouraging students to stretch their minds into new territory while drawing upon basic skills of typography, color and composition.

The role of the de­signer in the graphic com­mu­ni­ca­tion process. In-depth ex­plo­ration of iden­tity pro­grams. De­sign pro­jects with mul­ti­ple com­po­nents, pre­sen­ta­tion and de­sign prac­tice, prepa­ra­tion of fin­ished art­work using soft­ware such as In­De­sign, Il­lus­tra­tor and the Adobe Cre­ative Suite.

The role of the designer in the graphic communication process. In-depth exploration of identity programs. Design projects with multiple components, presentation and design practice, preparation of finished artwork using software such as InDesign, Illustrator and the Adobe Creative Suite.

A re­quired course for all Ad­ver­tis­ing De­sign and Graphic Arts stu­dents. Top­ics in­clude cre­ative user in­ter­face de­sign and best work­flow prac­tice. Stu­dents will de­sign a web­site using an XHTML tem­plate, and will de­velop de­sign, ty­pog­ra­phy and web pro­gram­ming skills. XHTML and CSS will be taught.

A required course for all Advertising Design and Graphic Arts students. Topics include creative user interface design and best workflow practice. Students will design a website using an XHTML template, and will develop design, typography and web programming skills. XHTML and CSS will be taught.

The course will focus on busi­ness let­ters, memos, min­utes, process pa­pers, and re­ports.” Eng­lish 3771, Ad­vanced Ca­reer Writ­ing, will pro­vide you with the op­por­tu­nity to im­prove your abil­ity to write busi­ness doc­u­ments through ap­plied study and cri­tique. You will de­velop the knowl­edge, skills, and processes nec­es­sary to com­pose doc­u­ments under con­straints typ­i­cally found in the work­place. You will be eval­u­ated through­out the process of re­search­ing, or­ga­niz­ing, writ­ing, re­vis­ing, and pre­sent­ing your doc­u­ments.

Catalog Description: “An advanced composition course emphasizing writing used in business and industry. The course will focus on business letters, memos, minutes, process papers, and reports.” English 3771, Advanced Career Writing, will provide you with the opportunity to improve your ability to write business documents through applied study and critique. You will develop the knowledge, skills, and processes necessary to compose documents under constraints typically found in the workplace. You will be evaluated throughout the process of researching, organizing, writing, revising, and presenting your documents.
