Building Technology Studio 3

This is an Ad­vanced De­sign stu­dio where the sig­nif­i­cance of pub­lic hous­ing will be ex­am­ined. The stu­dio will re­search, eval­u­ate an­a­lyze and in­ves­ti­gate multi-fam­ily hous­ing and urban re­de­vel­op­ment, and pro­pose an ex­ploratory ap­proach to the plan­ning and de­liv­ery of hous­ing. The final pro­ject will con­sist of de­sign­ing high den­sity mixed –use hous­ing and pub­lic space with com­mu­nity ameni­ties.

This is an Advanced Design studio where the significance of public housing will be examined. The studio will research, evaluate analyze and investigate multi-family housing and urban redevelopment, and propose an exploratory approach to the planning and delivery of housing. The final project will consist of designing high density mixed –use housing and public space with community amenities.

This course is an ex­plo­ration of ab­stract ar­chi­tec­tural de­sign the­ory as an ex­pres­sion of three-di­men­sional space. The cre­ation of com­pre­hen­sive ar­chi­tec­tural de­sign pro­jects are de­vel­oped fol­low­ing a build­ing pro­gram and in­cor­po­rat­ing el­e­ments of site, en­clo­sure, struc­ture, ma­te­r­ial and tech­nol­ogy. De­sign con­cepts and vo­cab­u­lary are in­tro­duced and strength­ened through de­sign pro­jects.

This course is an exploration of abstract architectural design theory as an expression of three-dimensional space. The creation of comprehensive architectural design projects are developed following a building program and incorporating elements of site, enclosure, structure, material and technology. Design concepts and vocabulary are introduced and strengthened through design projects.
