Ellen Baryshev’s Profile
I studied academic art and graphic design at the Kiev Institute of Graphic Design in Ukraine and graduated with a bachelor degree in Graphic Design. After moving to New York, I received a BS in Graphic design Imaging.
At the present time I am freelance graphic and web designer, and teach part-time in college variety of courses: web design, graphic design, communication design, advertising design, drawing, and more.
I am a cofounder / co-owner / art director of the Kurochka (Chicken) company, work on which takes most of my time
Kurochka is a team project with my daughter Yana Barysheva. We’re working on designs for multiple objects/merchandise/gifts based on Russian and Ukrainian folklore, fairy tales and culture.
There are a lot of information and stories about these countries: the traditions, the culture, the food, the fairy tales, the quirks, the myths and the reality and more on the Kurocha site.

Recently we finished working on 7-year project, 300-pages book More Than Borsch, which is not a simple cookbook; it explores the true nature of Russian and Ukrainian culture through both countries history starting from 8 century, traditions and celebrations, culinary history, classic recipes and foodie literature of famous Russian and Ukrainian writes and poets.
