COMD3500 FA2018 – Prof Alta Tseng
This course is an in-depth exploration of the creative advertising campaign and related media. Working individually and/or in teams, students will research, develop creative concepts and design packaged goods and service sector campaigns. Preparation of finished artwork using QuarkXpress and software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
Three Dimensional Design COMD #3292 D222
Principles of three-dimensional design. Course covers an analysis of form and space. Topics include: hollow forms both geometric and organic; architectonic organization of space; light and shadow; geometric solids; the modular unit; form and structure in nature; linear forms with membranes; movement. Applications to packaging, architecture, sculpture and environmental design and graphics. Materials and inherent properties governing their use in form and space.
COMD 3601 E254 Information Design Fall 2017
Thursday 6:00-8:30 pm In this course students will explore and develop several kinds of information graphics, including data graphics, visual explanations, and way finding systems. Students will also explore exhibition design. We will touch on the history of info graphics and will find ways they are appearing in new technology. This course will encourage students to stretch their minds while building on the foundation of typography, color and composition. Students will develop new skills in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, and consider other software tools for info graphics development.
COMD4900 HE98_35316 Internship in COMD Fall2018
Internship in Communication Design Assignment to field work/study situations of approximately eight to ten plus hours per week at a graphic arts-related internship site approved by the department internship director. Sites may be in areas such as advertising, printing, corporate communications or publishing. Students keep a log/journal to be shared in group seminars/discussions. Supervision is by faculty and by the job supervisor. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Open Lab.
User Experience (UX) Design is an essential component in developing websites, applications, and any other type of product intended to be used by people. This course examines the leading concepts of user—centered design through readings, discussions and assignments. Practical concerns include evaluation of technology needed to create or maintain websites; and exploration of a step by step process for creating products using flow charts, content trees and schematics. Students will also gain an understanding of issues surrounding usability on the Web, knowledge management and Web strategy.
