My Courses
ENT 4900/4901 Internship F2017
For ENT Majors: work experience at a professional scenery fabrication shop, rental/supply house, off- Broadway theater, or any related industry organization approved by the adviser. For Emerging Media Tech Majors, work experience at a design firm, media electronics firm, media software firm, robotics firm, entertainment or media production firm, or any related industry organization approved by the adviser. This will serve to bridge the student’s academic and commercial careers by giving the him/her professional work experience and industry contacts before the end of the senior year. Each student will keep a log/journal to be shared in group seminars. Supervision will be by faculty and a manager at the internship site. Prerequisite: ENT 4410 or ENT 4450 or ENT 4470 or ENT 4480 or Pre- or corequisite: MTEC 3800
MTEC 3175, Game Design & Development, Fall 2017
This hands-on studio course will focus on the creation of innovative workable prototypes exploring expressive forms of gameplay using a variety of multi-media approaches, methodologies and materials. The aesthetics of game design, including asset and character development, level design, game play experience and delivery systems will be covered. Supplemental readings on the complex interplay between story and game will be explored to analyze effective narrative devices and game mechanics. The class will involve lectures on game theory, design exercises and in-depth analysis of works across commercial, art & social change sectors.
MTEC 2210, Game Design & Interactive Media, 2017
This course offers a cross-disciplinary foundation for the design of games and interactive multi-media technology for artists, engineers, scientists and technologists. Students will learn human-centered design principles and apply these methodologies to collaborative team-based projects across web interactive, mobile, games, virtual & augmented reality, biomedia and environmental installation. Using case studies, brainstorming processes, and rapid analog and digital prototyping, students learn design thinking and problem-solving techniques to enhance usability, incorporate sensory experience, influence perception, increase appeal, and make more effective interactive design decisions.
Interactive Sound for Games and Simulations
An introduction to interactive sound for games and simulation-based media. The technical skills and foundations covered apply to game audio, interactive music performance, and interactive media scores. Students learn to use game audio engines, sound computation basics, and open source and proprietary tools. Professional audio quality standards are emphasized, and aesthetic sensitivity for final product is developed. For final projects, students design and program a complete sound environment for a game scene or interactive simulation.
The goal of this course is to let students experiment and create electronic circuits and 3D prints. The class is divided into two main topics: Electronics and 3D Printing. Each topic while have several modules. After each module students will have created a circuit, model, or 3D print. Students will be introduced how to create physical interfaces by learning how to program the Arduino micro controller. They will learn how to use sensors to translate physical interaction to output a sensory experience. Finally, they will design and print 3D models. Students will learn basic fabrication, modeling techniques, and processes used in 3D printing. Then they will learn how to create models using Blender and learn how to print them.
My Projects
Health and Safety in Production
A Survey of hazards specifically associated with working in theaters and fabrication shops. Topics include chemicals in pigments and polymer plastics, vapors, fumes and ventilation; shop conditions; proper preparation and planning, current OSHA and EPA standards; hazards associated with welding and fire codes.
Entertainment Technology Culmination Project
Project site for all Entertainment Technology and Emerging Media Technology majors.
This project is one section of the Technical Production courses.
The City Tech Bugle provides an abundance of information from around the nation in various magazines in order to establish a concrete foundation of knowledge for students. The information provided consist of multiple sources that focuses on three specific majors: Chemical Technology, Architecture, and Entertainment Technology.
