Andleeb Zameer’s Profile
Nervous system and Immune system interactions
I received my PhD from Arizona State University. My doctoral thesis was in the area of neuro-immune interactions with a specific focus on how immune system can alter nervous system functioning in autoimmune diseases. I did my postdoctoral work in the area of recombinant antibodies using phage display technology to synthesize antibodies against target proteins like amyloid-beta and Huntington’s protein that are thought to cause pathology in neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease. I moved to Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NY where I worked in the area of Multiple Sclerosis, an autoimmune disorder of the nervous system. I joined as an Assistant Professor at New York City College of Technology, CUNY in Fall 2010.
My Courses
This course is an introduction to the scientific study of life, organization of life, evolutionary changes in living organisms and how life has evolved from simple to more complex, structure and organization of a cell, cellular metabolism, cellular reproduction, and the role of DNA in protein synthesis and heredity.
Human Biology BIO 1100 Fall 2013
This course includes selected biological concepts, including the chemical basis of life, cell structure and division, a broad survey of the major systems of human body with a special emphasis on human health and disease, human evolution and ecology. This course is designed to provide a working knowledge of life science to students who do not plan to continue in sciences that will be helpful in making informed decisions on health and environment.
My Projects
City Tech’s Source for Academic Affairs Information
Welcome! “A Living Laboratory: Revitalizing General Education for a 21st Century College of Technology” is a major grant-funded project centered on the idea of using City Tech and its location as a “living lab.” Visit our site to learn more – and if you are a member of the OpenLab community, you can also get involved by joining the project.
This is a collaborative space for use by the Third Year Faculty Fellow participants in the General Education Seminar, part of City Tech’s Title V grant-funded initiative A Living Laboratory. This seminar will concentrate particularly on the first and third years of the student experience at our college, with an emphasis on real-world problems. The group’s Avatar contains elements of a photo by tk-link (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tk-link/2575598759/in/photostream/).
This project archive compiles the experiences of the Living Lab General Education Seminar Fellows over the 5 year period of the grant. It includes the reflections of participants and compilations of course portfolios with links to OpenLab course sites.
